The health resort town of Narva-Jõesuu has legends, and we will tell to you some of them...
In the winter of 1705 russian tsar Peter I has arrived to the located in a mouth of the Narova river seaside settlement. But he could not eat - in fisherman's shacks, which have surprised the inportant visitor by their poverty, there was no food for the tsar. So the angry autocrat has exclaimed in a fit of temper: «Let the Gungerburg be laid here!»
Gungerburg (Narva-Jõesuu) due to natural features like sea, river, pine forest and the wonderful beach, has become one of the best resorts, not only in pre-revolutionary Russia but also in Europe. Famous writers, artists and composers, who had vacation here, called this Estonian resort the pearl of Gulf of Finland. Igor Severjanin and Sasha Cherny have written poems about this site of the Baltic Sea. Three hundred years have passed after visiting this estonian settlement by the Russian tsar. Narva-Jõesuu, the former settlement of Gungerburg and later Ust-Narva, which has received the status of the city in 1993, nowadays tries to return to itself former glory of the Baltic pearl.
The second legend of the city of Narva-Jõesuu will tell you about the wonderful tree, which is growing near road to Tallinn. Rumors have that the famous artist Ivan Shishkin has worked under this huge pine. Today some people call it "Shishkin's Pine", but also it has other name - "Musimänd" - the Pine of kisses. According to popular belief, the young couple, who have a kiss under this tree is the first, will love each other forever. This is why newlyweds from the surrounding towns come here, also in order to tie a silk ribbon to the branches of the pine.
